I didn't see anyone answer this directly. Regarding controls... In the Mercenary Quarters pressing L1 and choosing "System Operation / Options" with X you find a set of menus you can use to configure controls.

In EVE meta level is rather like the "generation" of item. Think of the "next generation" IPhone. Some stuff about it is better than the previous generation for some folks, some isn't. In EVE's open economy it doesn't even directly effect the item...
